Stuart Howarth discusses how he prepared for life after rugby and his current role in a school for children with special educational needs.

Since filming this video, Stuart has been appointed head teacher at EdStart, which focuses on 11 to 16-year-olds with a variety of social, emotional and mental health needs.

RL Cares has supported and encouraged Stuart throughout his career journey: in this short video he reflects on the things he wished he'd done differently, speaks of the importance of education and training, and share tips for players thinking 'What next?' on their career pathways.

If I could ask the 16-year-old me what he'd do other than become a professional player I don't thin k he could answer. I was always utterly focused on rugby, rugby, rugby, and that's a problem for many young players today.
