Wigan Warriors' Rugby Operations Manager Tom Fitzpatrick has little doubt what the most important quality required of a player welfare manager is: trust.
In this insightful discussion with Francis Stephenson, Tom chats about his role at the club, his relationship with players and coaching staff, and shares a few tips for any current or retired player looking to work in the important field of player wellbeing.
Having a relationship with players is the most important thing: if you don't have that you can't duo anything else. When I took on the role I had known a lot of the first team squad since they were 14 or younger and had a trusting relationship with them. That was a big reason why I took the job on.
