RFL match officials invested in money matters

Written by Steve Hardisty | Jan 14, 2025 3:57:45 PM

The financial wellbeing of the sport’s match officials became the focus of Rugby League Cares this week when the charity hosted a series of informative and engaging workshops at the RFL’s Etihad Stadium HQ.

Delivered by Adrian Firth from RL Cares partners Mattioli Woods, the workshops formed part of the mental health and well-being phase of the Sport Psychology programme that is being delivered to match officials during pre-season.

Adrian made the content relevant to all department members by providing three separate workshops: Managing Money and Finances, Saving and Investing, and Pensions and Retirement.

The diversity of the sessions enabled important buy-in from officials across the whole department, with Adrian’s delivery style allowing lots of engagement and discussion. Participants were provided with a wealth of new information about finances and resources that will help them with their short-term, medium-term, and long-term financial plans.

Steve Hardisty, RL Cares Head of Curriculums and Work Programmes, said: “We would like to thank all the RFL match officials for their positive response to the workshops and their friendly welcome.

Financial control and stability play a large role in maintaining good mental health and wellbeing and the information shared by Adrian from our valued partners Mattioli Woods will enable the match officials to better manager not only their finances but their health as well.”
