Luke Bryan and the RL Benevolent Fund

Written by Steve Ball | Oct 9, 2024 8:53:57 AM

Luke Bryan was left paralysed from the neck down after suffering a serious spinal injury in a seemingly innocuous tackle while playing for his local community club, Haydock in 1997.

Luke has been confined to a wheelchair ever since and is only able to breathe with the help of a ventilator.

After hearing of Luke’s injury, the Rugby League Benevolent Fund joined forces with the Steve Prescott Foundation to make significant changes to his quality of life.

The charities helped fund and build an adapted bungalow, co-designed by Luke, and have continued to support Luke and his family.

In this moving interview, Luke chats with RL Benevolent Fund General Manager Steve Ball MBE about his life, his friendship with the late, great Steve Prescott and the difference the two charities have made to his wellbeing.

The RL Benevolent Fund commits to providing lifelong support to any player who suffers a life-changing injury on the field of play.
