Iain Thornley | Transition

Written by Stuart Dickens | Apr 8, 2024 11:59:40 AM

As he approaches the twilight of a distinguished playing career, Wakefield Trinity's Iain Thornley is well prepared for the next chapter of his working life.

In this fascinating video, Iain chats with the Championship club's Wellbeing Manager Stuart Dickens about the steps he has taken off the field to pave the way for a smooth transition out of the sport.

He also has some useful advice that younger players will find valuable in their own preparations for what comes next.

Try and get something boxed off early. If I could go back, I wish I'd done that between 16 and 19. That way you can have as long a playing career as possible knowing you've got insurance behind you.

"Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger,

even though sometimes it is hard to realise this.

For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that

the setbacks and griefs which we endure help us in our marching onward"
