Rugby League Cares is now booking appointments for the December Memory Clinic at which current and former professional players can get help and advice on issues such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and associated cognitive impairment from a dedicated Dementia UK Admiral Nurse.

The December clinic takes place on Wednesday December 4 at The Edge conference centre in Wigan: appointments with Admiral nurse Joe Costello can take place in person, online or by telephone and are also open to immediate family members of current or retired players.

It will be the first time the clinics have been hosted west of the Pennines and RL Cares is anticipating strong interest in this important service which has so far helped dozens of players and their families.

Joe is able to advise on a wide range of subjects around brain health, including but not excluded to lifestyle choices, risk factors, recognising signs and symptoms, preparation for diagnostic appointments and how to access specialist support.

The feedback from current and former professional players who have attended previous clinics has been universally positive, with one retired international player saying: “Joe was just brilliant. It took me a while to admit I needed help but I’m really glad I reached out.

“My consultation has really put me at ease and armed me with lots information that will be helpful to both me and my wife, who encouraged me to attend.

“Like a lot of blokes my age, I’m not good at asking for help but I’m really glad I did. Thank you Joe and thank you Rugby League Cares.”

Appointments are free, last for around 40 minutes and are totally confidential – to book, please click here
