Chris Green was looking forward to a late-career flourish after joining resurgent Leigh Centurions for the start of the 2022 season.
But in only his second game for the club, Chris broke his arm and then picked up a serious infection which almost led to the arm being amputated.
With constant medical care, the arm was saved but Chris's rugby league career was over after over 200 first grade appearances with six different clubs, the majority with his home-town club Hull FC.
In this short video, Chris reflects on his forced retirement, the support he has received from Rugby League Cares and shares some advice for current players.
It's important to remember that there is life outside rugby. When you're a player you can become very institutionalised and not realise how many opportunities there are out there. Rugby league does set you up in good ways and life after rugby is a very exciting time.
