Former England stand-off and Man of Steel Rangi Chase spoke to Alex Simmons ahead of his return to Rugby League after two years away.
Rangi talks candidly about the troubles he has faced and how taking a break from the sport helped save him.
Rangi, who is is a former Man of Steel and England player, has had a difficult period in his life after he failed a drug test for cocaine use and lost his professional career. He felt bitter about the lack of support he received from his team and others in the industry. He also struggled with depression and attempted suicide. However, he has since turned his life around and is now training with a coach and preparing to play in a game.
He says that going through the difficult time has made him a stronger and better person, and that he is grateful for the opportunity to play again. He also mentions that there have been other players in the past who have failed drug tests and have struggled with depression, some of whom have taken their own lives.
I took time out to reflect on my life and what's important to me. I've come through the dark side, so to be able to do what I'm doing now is good. I have a lot to look forward to, it's been a good lesson for me.
