What you do before the interview matters. In this video, Jenn, an Indeed career coach, shares her recommended strategy for interview research and preparation.

What is the advice for preparing for an interview?

The career coach at Indeed, Jenn, suggests to approach research from a "big-to-small" mindset. Start with researching the company, the job description, and the interviewer. Research the company by visiting its website, reading reviews on company pages on Indeed.com, and checking the company's social media channels.

Review the job description to understand the responsibilities and requirements of the position, and to be able to articulate how and why you're qualified for the role. Research the interviewer by focusing on their professional journey, commonalities in background, education, or interests.

Practice common interview questions, including general, situational, behavioral, and technical questions specific to your industry.

An interview is not a one-way street, you are evaluating a prospective employer just as much as they are evaluating you. Preparation allows you to walk into an interview assured of your unique value.

"So many people out there have no idea what they want to do for a living, but they think that

by going on job interviews they’ll magically figure it out.

If you’re not sure, that message comes out loud and clear in the interview”
