Former Castleford and Great Britain centre Shaun Irwin explains why his Rugby League career was perfect preparation for working under pressure as an NHS frontline paramedic...

Our NHS heroes have continued to perform superbly under pressure since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, none more so than ex-Castleford, Featherstone and GB player Shaun Irwin, who is now a senior paramedic in West Yorkshire.

In this short video, Shaun outlines why RL players have all the transferrable skills needed to succeed in careers within the NHS.

In an ideal world I would have gone into physiotherapy but I wasn't academic enough be able to follow that pathway. Instead, I looked at what qualifications I needed to pursue a career as a paramedic, the police or fire service, and the rest is history. I really love my job.
